FreightScan, LLC has increased the functionality of its FreightScan FS100 automated dimensioning system for cargo scanning. The technology now offers the ability to trigger a scan with a barcode reader and supporting software, allowing for use of a remote trigger. FreightScan is a developer of technology for the freight and logistics industry. Using a universal barcode reader, the FS100 can capture information from the barcode, then automatically populate the air waybill field and trigger a scan in less than a second, the vendor claimed. The resulting dimensions are then associated with the correct air waybill in a database. The FS100 scanner has been adjusted to accommodate the cargo-acceptance process at the Bogota, Colombia facility of cargo airline Martinair, where more than 10,000 flower boxes are processed each day. In addition, FreightScan said it has developed a "thin-client" data system which allows for a simplified wireless user interface to trigger a scan remotely from the FS100 terminal. The feature was designed for cargo operations utilizing forklift scales and facilities that can benefit from triggering scans from the PC terminal without interfering with their workflow process.
