FreightScan LLC plans to debut its newly developed FS100P automated dimensioning system for cargo scanning at the Air Cargo Americas 2009 show on Nov. 4-6. Part of FreightScan's FS100 family of cargo-scanning products, the FS100P is aimed at small cargo and package operations that need instantly to capture cargo dimensions and images in a smaller scan area. The idea for the FS100P originated during the time the vendor spent working in Latin America with cargo hubs that specialize in flower boxes, according to chief executive officer Andre Johnson. That market requires a dimensioning system mounted over a narrow roller conveyor that can scan cargo in one second, in order to avoid interfering with workflow. Based on its findings, FreightScan set out to develop a system that required a shorter scan time to dimension cargo because of heavy volumes or a limited scan area. The FS100P provides the same basic functionality as that of the original FS100 system, but with a more targeted market in mind. It is designed to dimension cargo in a scan area of up to four feet square with smaller cargo units such as skids, individual pieces, parcels and conveyable freight. The FS100P is built on DimPro 2.0, FreightScan's proprietary software which enables customers to capture, display and transfer dimensions and images associated with shipment waybills.
