Transite Technology, a vendor of transportation-management software and services, has incorporated shipping-optimization capabilities into its suite of applications. The new offering allows shippers to lower their freight costs through the aggregation, scheduling and routing of shipments, the company said. The optimization technology allows for the merging of shipments across multiple plants and distribution centers. It permits the planning of inbound supply chains involving multiple vendors, plants and distribution centers. Vehicle capacity can be maximized through the recognition of product that weighs out, cubes out or is limited by pallet capacity. Users can work with mixed-temperature loads with both dry and chilled products. They can schedule private-fleet operations or common-carrier truckload service, plus less-than-truckload and multi-stop loads. Integrated pool distribution can be employed for outbound loads, making optimal use of drops at regional distribution carrier depots in lieu of LTL or direct deliveries. In addition, the tool allows for the consolidation of inbound loads, planning truckload picks at regional facilities instead of using LTL or direct pickups.
