Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo has been accredited as a Qualified Envirotainer Provider (QEP) by Envirotainer, a manufacturer of active temperature-controlled containers for air transport. QEP accreditation means that Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo has incorporated Envirotainer-related elements into its quality-management system, as defined in Chapter 17 of the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Perishable Cargo Regulations. That portion of the rules relates to the movement by air of temperature-sensitive healthcare products. The entity created by the merger of Air France and KLM, completed in 2005, has been developing a product known as Variation Pharma 1, a cool-chain service for goods requiring the strictest temperature control. Under the offering, the carrier provides such products with "highest boarding priority," supported by temperature and dry ice acceptance checks throughout the air logistics chain, captain-monitored in-flight temperature, a dedicated storage area in transit, and conditioned trucking on request. The service is available to more than 100 stations around the world, both for imports and exports, with the capability to handle both Envirotainer's KRN and RAP containers.
