The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) and The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) have signed a deal allowing for the reciprocal certification of industry professionals in the U.S. and U.K., respectively. Between them, ISM and CIPS claim more than 150,000 members and individuals, holding professional credentials from at least one of the organizations. The new agreement will allow CIPS members in the U.K. holding the MCIPS designation to apply for and receive the CPSM credential from ISM. Similar conditions have been established for North American professionals holding the CPSM credential to obtain the MCIPS designation from CIPS. David Noble, chief executive officer of CIPS, said the groups are experiencing increasing demand from global organizations for procurement professionals who are qualified under a common standard across their operations. Both institutes are members of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management, a union of 43 national and regional purchasing associations from around the world.
