Motorola Inc.'s Enterprise Mobility Solutions unit has created a new pair of managed services. The Managed Infrastructure Service and Managed Device Service are intended to help companies manage multi-vendor wireless networks and devices, while making mobility systems more accessible to corporate and government customers. The benefits of managed services include more predictable uptime, lower cost of ownership and faster response to discovered faults, Motorola claimed. The Managed Infrastructure Service combines the vendor's AirDefense Infrastructure management and Network Assurance offerings to provide remote monitoring, management and troubleshooting of wireless local area networks (WLANs) to customers with limited IT resources. The new Managed Device Service is a component of Motorola's Device Management Framework, drawing on the company's Mobility Services Platform to support the use of mobile devices across the organization. It offers multilingual help-desk services that provide a first point of contact for users, with immediate support from Level 1 and 2 Motorola technicians. According to Motorola, the service enables multiple time-based actions, such as profile management, refreshes and problem resolution during downtime, or when devices are not in use. As part of the service, Motorola maintains detailed information about each mobile device, so that users can track the location and use of their assets.
