The container shipping line APL has joined the Inttra electronic commerce portal. The Inttra network consists of electronic links with more than 30 ocean carriers, and more than 50,000 active network links with shippers. The technology streamlines and standardizes processes such as booking, bill of lading and invoicing. More than 315,000 container orders are initiated via the Inttra platform each week, the provider claimed, representing more than 10 percent of global shipping trade. A full-scale electronic interface between Inttra and APL is slated for completion by the end of 2010. APL offers more than 60 weekly services and 500 calls at some 140 ports worldwide. It is a unit of Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines.
