The Open Group has announced formation of the Open Group Trust Technology Forum (TTF), a global standards initiative which seeks to create an open environment for the secure development and delivery of commercial software and hardware products. The effort is aimed at technology companies, customers, government and supplier organizations. It intends to develop and promote guidelines for sourcing, manufacturing and integrating secure technologies. The goal is to "shape global procurement strategies and best practices to help reduce threats and vulnerabilities in the global supply chain," the new group said. The forum will operate under the stewardship of The Open Group, an international standards consortium. Founding members include Boeing, Carnegie Mellon SEI, CA Technologies, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Kingdee, Microsoft, MITRE, NASA, Oracle Corp. and the U.S. Department of Defense. Initially, the forum will release a framework that unifies industry best practices. Its long-term objective is to develop a globally recognized program based on open and international standards.
