Damco Dynamic Flow Control provides for supply-chain flexibility without the complexity and manual workload typically involved in changing purchase orders. As a result, the company said, customers can more easily adjust to last-minute demand and supply changes. Similar in concept to global positioning system (GPS) technology, Dynamic Flow Control recalculates the optimal route to market when a change in the demand or supply side occurs. The optimization engine generates plans at P.O. and SKU levels, based on predefined business rules and criteria such as delivery time, cost, carbon output, transport mode and carrier mix. Shipments are dynamically re-planned and automatically executed using Damco's proprietary decision-tree methodology. Damco is part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group.
