The GS1 US Simple Product Listing is intended to ensure that products are accurately represented across all sales channels, and more easily discoverable by search engines and consumers. The standard allows trading partners to employ a single set of consumer-friendly terms that are linked to their internal product hierarchies, so that prospective buyers are presented with the same information across channels. In the process, GS1 US said, the technology helps to bridge the gap between retailers and suppliers, and provides an automated product-classification system that accelerates speed to market. Initial release of the Simple Product Listing will include six of the most commonly searched product segments: books, music and movies; clothing, shoes and accessories; consumer electronics; collectibles and memorabilia; gift and prepaid service cards, and tickets. Companies participating in development of the standard included Best Buy, Bing, CNET, eBay, Google and Walmart.
